Our Story

In the midst of my graphic design career, a longing for change began to take root, beckoning me away from the concrete jungle towards the sun-drenched shores where the call of surfing awaited. Amidst this transition I found myself grappling with a glaring gap in the market – a lack of swim and surf wear that was both functional and aligned with my personal style.

Daggy rash guards and tiny bikinis were dominating the surf scene's narrative. Finding something I felt confident wearing in the ocean that wasn’t either stylishly impractical or ill-fitting seemed impossible.

Hakea emerged as my solution - functional, comfortable, design-led swimwear you can feel great wearing. Versatile pieces that seamlessly blend the intersection of coastal and city style.

What began as a longing for change has evolved into a career that harmonises with my lifestyle. Through Hakea, I’ve come to realise that travel sparks my creativity, providing a space for new ideas and the excitement of stepping out of my comfort zone. I cherish the small moments - practicing mindfulness by spending time in the sun, enjoying the ocean, slowing down, and nurturing a sense of community. Hakea has become more than a brand; it's a reflection of my commitment to these values and a celebration of the simple, meaningful experiences that shape our lives.
